Sacrament of Baptism (Infants): One-class sessions for parents are held four times a year.     Contact Deacon Jim Pittman, call 503-785-2405

Adult Confirmation If you are over 18 and have not been confirmed, Christ the King Parish offers Adult Confirmation classes starting in late winter/early spring. By receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation you complete the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. Those receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation will be confirmed at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in downtown Portland. For information call 503-785-2413

Sacramental Preparation:

Reconciliation and First Communion

Regular attendance in a formal religious education program is required for children who wish to participate in the sacramental preparation program at Christ the King Parish. A formal religious education program would either be the Religious Education classes held on Wednesday night at Christ the King or attending Christ the King School. It is mandatory that a child who is seeking the sacraments be in at least their second year of formal religious education classes. This means that if you wish for your child to be eligible for Reconciliation and First Eucharist during the second grade year, the child must be participating in some formal program for both their first and second grade year.  Contact Mary-Jo Schultz, 503-785-2413 Director of Religious Education

Second-year Sacramental Preparation

Reconciliation Preparation for this sacrament begins in September of the second year for students enrolled in both Christ the King School and Christ the King Religious Education. For Reconciliation, we use the “Reconciliation” books published by Resources for Christian Living (RCL). These books must be completed and turned in prior to the child receiving the sacrament in November. Please allow your child to do the activities in this book as much as they can on their own. However, talk with your child about what they are learning and seek to reinforce the lessons at home. There is also a required parent meeting in preparation for this sacrament.

Eucharist - Preparation for this sacrament begins in February. There is one mandatory meeting for parents and one mandatory retreat for students during this heightened time of preparation. The retreat for students will take place on a Saturday morning in March and parents will be asked to help volunteer at this retreat.

For First Eucharist, we use the book “Eucharist” that is published by Resources for Christian Living (RCL). This book needs to be completed and turned in prior to the child receiving the sacrament. The children will also be asked to make a First Eucharist Banner which will be displayed in the church on the weekend of their First Eucharist. Specific instructions regarding these banners will be handed out the night of the parent’s meeting regarding First Eucharist.

As prescribed by the Archdiocese of Portland, all children at Christ the King Parish – including both religious education and the parish school – who are in their second year and preparing for First Eucharist – will receive their First Eucharist together at one of the weekend liturgies scheduled for the last weekend in April. There will not be a separate liturgy for the children preparing for the sacraments through the school.
