It is the mission of Open Arms &
Helping Hands Ministry to
strengthen
our community by enhancing
the quality of people’s
lives through the
delivery of goods and
services to those in need.
“For I was hungry and you gave
me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me
drink,
a stranger and you welcomed
me,
naked and you clothed me,
ill and you cared for me,
in prison and you visited me.”
Matthew
25:35

Downtown Chapel
Faith from the Streets
The
Downtown Chapel of Saint Vincent de Paul is a Catholic
Church in
downtown Portland, Oregon. Committed to living our
faith by
serving the Gospel of the Poor, our work centers around prayer, service
to the poor, and education. This blog is meant to be a place for the
Downtown Chapel community to share some of its unique insights on life
and faith that we often gain from being in contact with the most
marginalized of our society.

Elizabeth House
Elizabeth House is a
residential maternity home serving young women between the
ages of fourteen and twenty-two. Young women enter the
program during pregnancy and may stay from three to six
months following the birth of their children.
The program, staffed by a
resident Housemother and a part-time Social Worker, offers
comprehensive and coordinated services, with an emphasis on
educational achievement, enhanced personal relationship
skills, parenting education and preparedness for independent
living. To ensure a smooth and successful transition at the
end of their stay at Elizabeth House, the program provides
residents with assistance in moving into permanent housing
and six to twelve months of aftercare, including information
and referral, advocacy and home visit services.
